B.Sc. Cardiac Pulmonary and Perfusion Care Technology

Program Overview

The B.Sc. in Cardiac Pulmonary and Perfusion Care Technology prepares students to become highly skilled professionals in cardiac surgical care. Perfusionists play a critical role in the cardiothoracic surgical team by operating and monitoring the heart-lung machine during open-heart surgeries. This machine temporarily takes over the functions of the heart and lungs, ensuring the patient’s circulatory and respiratory needs are maintained throughout the procedure. Perfusionists are indispensable members of advanced cardiac care teams, working alongside surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other specialists in complex surgical interventions.

Key Learning Areas

  • Principles of cardiac and pulmonary physiology
  • Operation and monitoring of the heart-lung machine
  • Clinical management during cardiothoracic and transplantation surgeries
